McCarthy Tétrault Appoints Matthew Cumming and Richard O’Doherty as Practice Group Leaders of its National Business Law Group

We are pleased to announce that Matthew Cumming and Richard O’Doherty have been appointed as Co-Leaders of the Firm’s National Business Law Group, supporting the continued strength and integration of the Firm’s business law practices.

Based in New York, and focused exclusively on Canadian law, Matt is a highly regarded corporate and M&A lawyer with extensive experience advising Canadian and international corporations, private equity sponsors and institutional investors on complex public and private, domestic and cross-border transactions. He is known for bringing together cross-disciplinary teams across the Firm to support client objectives and deliver coordinated, effective solutions, and will continue in his role as New York Managing Partner.

Richard, who is based in Montréal, is a leading finance lawyer with a strong track record of advising Canadian and international corporations and investors, as well as banks, pension funds, governmental organizations and other financial institutions in regulatory matters as well as in financing transactions, particularly in the renewable energy, natural resource, transportation, agribusiness and infrastructure sectors. Clients value his commitment to understanding their business and his ability to leverage industry knowledge to deliver practical, strategic advice.
